Before you measure

Measure the thing that actually blocks it.

Most wrong calls come from measuring the obvious number instead of the limiting one. Two short lists that change the verdict.

Measure smart

  • Measure the clear opening, not the frame around it. Trim and door stops can steal an inch or more.
  • Measure the diagonal too. Most tight items only go in on a tilt.
  • Find the narrowest point along the whole route, not just the entry.
  • Use all three dimensions. A real fit is width, depth, and height together, in 3D.

Common mistakes

  • Trusting the listed product size instead of the boxed or assembled size.
  • Forgetting handrails, light fixtures, and the landing turn on a staircase.
  • Checking the cargo area of a vehicle but not the door opening into it.
  • Calling it close enough by eye instead of confirming the clearance margin.

Are these real fit checks?

Yes. Every page here is an actual check run through the ItemFits solver, with the dimensions, the limiting constraint, and the 3D verdict preserved exactly as they were computed.

What do the green, amber, and red labels mean?

Green means it fits with measurable clearance. Amber means it only fits tight, with a specific tilt, removed parts, or near-zero margin. Red means no orientation clears the constraint. Each result names the dimension that decided it.

How accurate are the results?

The verdict is only as good as the dimensions you give it, but the geometry is exact. The solver tests every orientation in 3D and reports the real clearance margin, not a rule of thumb.
