Usually yes. A standard armchair is about 35 in wide across the arms, 35 in deep and 40 in tall. A 30 in door gives roughly 28.5 in clear, so the chair goes through tilted onto its back or side, presenting its depth instead of its arm width. Square-on it will not.
01A manual recliner at 38-40 in wide normally clears a standard door tilted, particularly if the back unbolts. A large power recliner at 42 in wide with a fixed motor housing is the difficult case — take the back off, remove the door leaf, and check the hallway turn before you start.
02Lift the door leaf off its hinges (1.5-2 in), remove the door stop moulding (another 0.5-0.75 in per side), and take off the handle if it protrudes. Together that turns a 28.5 in clear opening into roughly 30-31 in, which is often the whole margin you need.
03Then the door is not the constraint — the turn is. A chair that passes the opening can still be stuck on a landing that is narrower than the chair is long. Measure the landing depth and the wall-to-wall width on both sides before you commit to carrying it up.
