Four numbers decide nearly every fit check. Get these right and the rest follows.
- 01Width, depth, and height of the piece, taken at the widest points, including feet, arms, handles, and headboards.
- 02The clearance the piece needs in the room: walkway space in front of a sofa, drawer pull-out depth, and door-swing room for a wardrobe.
- 03The item's smallest dimension, which decides whether tilting or turning it on edge gets it through a door or up a stair.
- 04The diagonal at turns and landings, where a long sofa or table is most likely to catch.
