Real openings run about 1 to 2 inches under the labeled size, and a single inch can flip the result. Check your own measurements before you buy or move.

Measure smart

What to measure.

Four numbers decide nearly every fit check. Get these right and the rest follows.

  1. 01Fold mechanism state — engage the deck fold and lock it before measuring, because a folded treadmill shrinks from 64–84" long to 35–50", cutting the pivot footprint nearly in half
  2. 02Total frame width including motor housing and side rails — the running belt is only 20–22" wide, but the frame rails and motor cover push the real width to 28–40", which is the dimension that must clear the doorway
  3. 03Doorway clear width between the inside edges of the frame — basement and home-gym doors are often only 28–30", tighter than the 32" standard used elsewhere
  4. 04Console mast height and detachability — the upright display mast adds 35–45 inches above the deck; removing its 4–6 base bolts and disconnecting the wiring harness drops the profile to deck height (10–15") and sheds 15–25 lbs

Don't make these

Common mistakes.

Most “it didn't fit” stories trace back to one of these oversights.

  1. ⚠Skipping the fold step — an unfolded treadmill at 72" long cannot pivot through a doorway with less than 6 feet of hallway depth on both sides, while a folded unit at 40" pivots in half that space
  2. ⚠Using belt width as the clearance number — the belt is 20–22" wide, but the actual frame width is 28–40" once you include the side rails, motor cover, and foot rails
  3. ⚠Leaving the console uprights attached — the tall display mast (55–63") catches on the door header during a tilt, and the touchscreen is the most expensive part to replace if it strikes the frame
  4. ⚠Not locking the fold mechanism before transit — a hydraulic fold that releases mid-carry drops the 40–60 lb deck onto your feet and can crack the pivot hinge bracket

Frequently asked

Questions we keep getting.

  • Should I fold the treadmill before moving it through a door?

Yes — if your treadmill has a folding deck, fold it up before moving. This reduces the footprint from 64–84" long to about 35–50" long, making it much easier to pivot through doorways. Lock the fold mechanism securely so the deck doesn't drop during transport.

    01
  • Can I remove the console mast to reduce height?

Most treadmill console masts detach with 4–6 bolts at the base. Removing the mast reduces height from 55–63" to about 10–15" (deck height only). Disconnect the console wiring harness carefully — it's a standard plug connector on most models. This also reduces weight by 15–25 lbs.

    02
  • How much does a treadmill weigh?

Home treadmills weigh 200–350 lbs depending on motor size, deck construction, and features. Budget models weigh 150–200 lbs. Commercial-grade models (NordicTrack Commercial, Peloton Tread+) weigh 290–350 lbs. Always check the assembled weight in the spec sheet, not the shipping weight.

    03
  • What is the best way to move a treadmill through a doorway?

Fold the deck, remove the console mast, and tilt the treadmill on its side so the width (28–40") faces the door opening. Most treadmills have transport wheels on the front — with the deck folded, you can tilt and roll it on those wheels. A second person should guide the back end through the opening.
