Measure smart

What to measure.

Four numbers decide nearly every fit check. Get these right and the rest follows.

  1. 01Measure the trunk or hatch opening at its narrowest point, including trim, latch hardware, and the loading lip.
  2. 02Measure usable length with the rear seats folded, plus the width between wheel wells and the lowest roof point.
  3. 03For a sedan, measure the folded-seat pass-through separately. It is often much smaller than the trunk interior.
  4. 04Measure width, depth, height, packaging, hoses, and protruding controls at the widest points.
  5. 05Most full-size washers need a van, pickup, or delivery vehicle even when their footprint looks close to a large hatchback.

Don't make these

Common mistakes.

Most “it didn't fit” stories trace back to one of these oversights.

  1. ⚠Using advertised cargo volume as if it proves a rigid item can clear the opening.
  2. ⚠Measuring the widest interior point instead of the smallest opening on the loading path.
  3. ⚠Ignoring packaging, removable parts, cargo covers, hinges, and the space needed to rotate the item.

Frequently asked

Questions we keep getting.

  • Will a compact washer fit upright in my hatchback?

It depends on the exact washer, the measured vehicle, and the available maneuver. A washer is a dense rigid cube that should travel upright. The hatch height, loading lip, payload, and safe restraint matter as much as floor space. Enter both sets of measurements in the calculator for a route-specific answer.

    01
  • What is the most important measurement for this washer fit?

Measure width, depth, height, packaging, hoses, and protruding controls at the widest points.

    02
  • Should I include packaging and removable parts?

Measure the transported condition. Include packaging, padding, handles, feet, and hardware that stay attached. Run a second check only after confirming which parts can safely come off.
