A standard desk is 48-60" wide and 24-30" deep. See the minimum room size, chair clearance requirements, and how to fit storage and a guest chair.
Whether it fits depends on measurements most people get wrong.
Desk depth (24-30") + chair rollback (36") + walkway (30") = 90-96" minimum room depth
Item: Standard desk: 48-60" wide x 24-30" deep x 30" tall. L-shaped: 48-60" per side.
Space: Minimum room: 8x10 (96"x120", 80 sq ft). Recommended for L-desk: 10x10 (100 sq ft)
Actual clear openings are usually 1–2″ smaller than the labeled size.
Your exact dimensions probably aren't "standard." Small measurement errors cause big problems — 1 inch can be the difference between fitting and getting stuck.
Verdicts are calculated by comparing all 6 item orientations against the space dimensions using verified building code standards. See our methodology

Standard sizes say it works — but your measurements are what matter.
An 8x10 foot room (80 sq ft) is the minimum for a single desk, chair, and basic storage. This fits a 48-60" desk against one wall, a chair with rollback space, and a bookshelf or file cabinet on a side wall. For an L-shaped desk or guest chair, aim for 10x10 or larger.
A walk-in closet (typically 5x6 or 6x8 feet) can work as a "cloffice." You need at least 48" of width for a desk and 54-60" of depth for the desk plus a chair. Remove the closet door or replace it with a curtain for easier access.
An L-shaped desk needs two wall segments of 48-60" each, plus 36" of chair space in front of the primary work surface. This means you need a room at least 9x10 feet, with the desk in the corner and the chair zone in the center.
