Not with the tailgate up. A 5 foot bed is about 60 inches and the boards are 96 inches, so you drop the tailgate, rest the boards on it, and strap them. Add a red flag to the overhang.
01A full 8 foot bed, about 98 inches at the floor, carries 96 inch boards flat with the tailgate closed. Shorter beds need the tailgate down.
02A standard 6 foot bed is about 78 inches, so a 96 inch board overhangs about 18 inches past the floor, which the lowered tailgate supports.
