Enter the ottoman dimensions and the real doorway measurements for a computed fit result.
Every ottoman size we checked clears a 28 in door. The corner after the door decides it: 3 of 5 sizes need more than a 36 in hallway carried upright, and none do once tipped onto an end or side.
Standard sizes are only a starting point; your actual ottoman, the openings, and the maneuver space decide this fit.
Reference dimensions are orientation aids, not a verdict. Measure your ottoman and every opening before moving or buying. Check your own measurements before you buy or move.

An ottoman can be a 20 in footstool or a 48 in square cocktail table. Most sit 15 to 18 in tall, about an inch under the sofa seat, while storage and cocktail ottomans run 36 to 60 in across. The small ones are easy; the large square ones are where a move gets tight.
Because ottomans are short, almost any of them passes a door by turning onto its side so the height meets the opening. The harder test is the corner: a 40 × 40 in square has no narrow side to lead with, so carried flat it needs a wide hallway to turn. On its side it needs much less.

Every size here also clears 30, 32 and 36 in doors. Figures in amber are wider than a 36 in hallway. Clear openings are measured stop to stop, 80 in high; corners are square, with equal hallway widths on both sides and a 96 in ceiling.
Every fit, clearance and hallway figure on this page was computed by the ItemFits geometry solver from the sizes listed, not estimated. Sizes are representative of what retailers sell; measure yours.

In our offline check, a small ottoman (20 × 20 × 17 in) fits through a standard 32 × 80 in interior door. Your own ottoman and doorway decide it — enter both measurement sets for a computed answer.
01The small ottoman, 20 × 20 × 17 inches, from the ItemFits furniture catalog. It is a reference size, not a claim about your ottoman.
02Storage and cocktail ottomans are much larger than a small footstool. Turn a large one on its side so its height, not its width, meets the opening.
03There is no single standard. Footstools are about 18 to 24 in across, rectangular storage ottomans about 36 × 24 in, cocktail ottomans 40 to 60 in long. Heights cluster at 15 to 18 in so the top sits just under a sofa seat.
04In our solver every square size we checked, up to 48 × 48 × 18 in, clears a 28 in door turned on its side. The corner after the door is the harder part: carried flat, a 48 in square needs a hallway about 48 in wide (it can slide around the corner without turning), but on its side it needs about 30 in.
05Yes, when they unscrew. It lowers the height by a few inches, which is the side a large ottoman leads with through a door, and it stops a leg snapping when you tip it.
