An IVAR section is about 83 cm (32.6 in) wide, with side units sold in 124, 179, and 226 cm heights (48.9, 70.5, and 89 inches) and depths of 30 or 50 cm (11.75 or 19.6 in).
IVAR ceiling clearance
The tallest IVAR side unit is 226 cm (89 in, about 7 feet 5 inches). It needs roughly 7.5-foot ceilings to stand upright and cannot be tilted up under a standard 8-foot ceiling, so assemble it standing or choose a shorter frame.

Four numbers decide nearly every fit check. Get these right and the rest follows.
- 01The assembled width, depth, and height at the widest points, including feet, handles, and any headboard or back panel.
- 02The flat-pack box dimensions, which is what you actually carry up the stairs and load into the car, not the built piece.
- 03The item's smallest dimension, which decides whether tilting or turning it on edge gets it through a tight opening.
- 04The clear opening of every space on the route, measured to the gap and not the frame, plus diagonal clearance at any turn.

- ⚠Measuring the assembled piece when the flat-pack box is what has to clear the door and the trunk.
- ⚠Forgetting that a tall unit close to 80 inches is right at standard door height before trim and flooring eat into it.
- ⚠Assuming a long box fits a sedan trunk when it really needs folded seats or an SUV cargo bay.
- ⚠Planning the doorway but ignoring the turn at the top of the stairs or the landing pivot.

What heights does IVAR come in?
IVAR side units (frames) come in three heights: 124 cm (48⅞ in), 179 cm (70½ in), and 226 cm (89 in). The frame you buy sets the section height; shelves are added separately.
01How much weight can an IVAR shelf hold?
Each IVAR pine shelf is rated for about 66 lbs (30 kg). The system is solid pine, so a full tall section is heavy and ships across multiple long boxes.
02How deep is an IVAR shelving unit?
IVAR comes in two depths: 30 cm (11¾ in) and 50 cm (19⅝ in). The 50 cm depth is the one that matters for hallway projection and for clearing a doorway on edge.
