Measure smart

What to measure.

Four numbers decide nearly every fit check. Get these right and the rest follows.

  1. 01Measure the room wall to wall, then subtract doors, wardrobes, radiators, vents, and required walkways.
  2. 02Measure the assembled bed frame, not only the nominal mattress size. Rails and headboards add inches.
  3. 03Keep practical clearance at the sides and foot of the bed, plus space for doors and drawers to open.
  4. 04Use the manufacturer frame dimensions rather than substituting the mattress size.
  5. 05Map the door swing, closet access, drawer travel, radiator clearance, and at least one practical route through the room.

Don't make these

Common mistakes.

Most “it didn't fit” stories trace back to one of these oversights.

  1. ⚠Comparing mattress dimensions with room dimensions while ignoring the larger frame.
  2. ⚠Using total floor area without mapping doors, windows, closets, and circulation paths.
  3. ⚠Forgetting that a technically fitting bed can still block a door, drawer, or comfortable walkway.

Frequently asked

Questions we keep getting.

  • Will a queen bed frame fit in a 10 by 10 room?

It depends on the exact bed frame, the measured room, and the available maneuver. Nominal mattress size understates the footprint. Rails, upholstery, posts, and the headboard can add several inches on every side. Enter both sets of measurements in the calculator for a route-specific answer.

    01
  • What is the most important measurement for this bed frame fit?

Use the manufacturer frame dimensions rather than substituting the mattress size.

    02
  • Should I include packaging and removable parts?

Measure the transported condition. Include packaging, padding, handles, feet, and hardware that stay attached. Run a second check only after confirming which parts can safely come off.
