Standard Dryer Dimensions
Standard dryers are 27 inches wide to match washing machines for side-by-side installation. Electric and gas dryers have the same external dimensions, but gas dryers need 4–6 inches of additional rear clearance for the vent duct.
How wide is a standard dryer?
Standard dryers match washers at 27 inches wide, 38–39 inches tall, and 28–34 inches deep. Gas dryers need additional vent clearance behind.

Frequently Asked Questions
Gas vs. electric dryer dimensions?
External dimensions are identical — 27" W × 39" H × 28–34" D. The difference is behind the dryer: gas models need a rigid or semi-rigid vent duct (4" diameter) plus 4–6" of clearance. Electric dryers need only 1–2" of rear clearance for the power cord.
Stackable dryer dimensions?
Stackable dryers are the same 27" width but often shorter (33–36" tall) to keep the total stacked height under 78". The stacking kit adds 1–2" between units. Total stacked height is typically 74–78".
Will a dryer fit through a standard door?
Yes — at 27" wide, a standard dryer easily clears a 32" interior door with 5" to spare. Even a narrow 28" door provides enough clearance.
