A queen mattress measures 60"x80". Find out the minimum room size, recommended dimensions, and how to fit nightstands, a dresser, and walking paths.
Whether it fits depends on measurements most people get wrong.
Queen mattress 60"x80" in a 10x10 room: 30" side clearance each side, 40" at foot
Item: Queen mattress: 60"x80" (5'x6'8"). Frame adds 2-6" per side.
Space: Recommended room: 10x10 (120"x120", 100 sq ft). Ideal: 10x12 (120"x144", 120 sq ft)
Actual clear openings are usually 1–2″ smaller than the labeled size.
Your exact dimensions probably aren't "standard." Small measurement errors cause big problems — 1 inch can be the difference between fitting and getting stuck.
Verdicts are calculated by comparing all 6 item orientations against the space dimensions using verified building code standards. See our methodology

Standard sizes say it works — but your measurements are what matter.
A 10x10 foot room (120"x120") is the recommended minimum. This gives you 30" of clearance on each side — enough for walking and small nightstands — and 40" at the foot. For a more spacious layout with a dresser, 10x12 is ideal.
It will be very cramped. A queen bed in a 9x9 room (108"x108") leaves only 24" per side and 28" at the foot. You can walk around the bed but cannot fit nightstands or a dresser. Consider a full bed (54"x75") for rooms under 10x10.
For comfortable daily use, plan for 24-30" on each side (walking plus nightstand) and at least 36" at the foot. This translates to a room at least 108-120" wide (9-10 feet) and 116" long (about 9'8").
