Measure smart

What to measure.

Four numbers decide nearly every fit check. Get these right and the rest follows.

  1. 01Count furniture pieces by type — sofas, beds, tables, dressers
  2. 02Estimate box count by room (average 10–15 boxes per room)
  3. 03Note items that must stay on the floor — appliances, anything too heavy to stack

Don't make these

Common mistakes.

Most “it didn't fit” stories trace back to one of these oversights.

  1. ⚠Underestimating — a 12-ft pod looks big but fills fast once you add a sofa, bed frame, and mattress
  2. ⚠Forgetting the door opening is narrower than the interior — PODS doors are about 7.5 ft wide, so 8-ft items won't fit through
  3. ⚠Packing too loosely — items shift during transport; pack tight and use straps on the built-in tie-down rails

Frequently asked

Questions we keep getting.

  • What fits in a 12-foot PODS container?

A 12-ft pod (12×8×8 ft, 689 cu ft) fits roughly a 2-bedroom apartment: a sofa, queen bed, dresser, dining table with chairs, and 20–30 boxes. Add major appliances and you'll need the 16-ft.

  • 7-ft vs. 12-ft vs. 16-ft — which size?

The 7-ft holds a large room or studio. The 12-ft handles 1–2 bedrooms. The 16-ft covers a full 2–3 bedroom home. When in doubt, size up — the cost difference is small compared to needing a second pod.
