Enter your washer dimensions and elevator measurements — the app checks door opening, cab fit, and dolly clearance.
Whether it fits depends on measurements most people get wrong.
Washer width vs. elevator door width, and washer height on dolly vs. door height
Item: Standard washer: 27" W × 28–34" D × 36–43" H (150–200 lbs). On dolly: +4–6" height
Space: Residential elevator: 36" W × 80" H door, 54" W × 80" D × 84" H cab
Actual clear openings are usually 1–2″ smaller than the labeled size.
Your exact dimensions probably aren't "standard." Small measurement errors cause big problems — 1 inch can be the difference between fitting and getting stuck.
Verdicts are calculated by comparing all 6 item orientations against the space dimensions using verified building code standards. See our methodology

“Showed the delivery guy the measurements. He agreed — we used the freight elevator instead.” — Apartment dweller
Measure smart
Four numbers decide nearly every fit check. Get these right and the rest follows.
Don't make these
Most “it didn't fit” stories trace back to one of these oversights.
Frequently asked
Yes — a standard washer (27" wide × 28–34" deep × 36–43" tall) fits easily in a residential elevator (36" door × 80" height). On a dolly, the total height is about 42–49" — well within the door opening. The main concern is weight (150–200 lbs) and building moving rules.
01A stacked unit (27" × 30–34" × 73–77") fits in the elevator cab, but on a dolly (+6–8") the total height reaches 79–85" — very tight or impossible for a standard 80" elevator door. Move the washer and dryer unstacked, then stack at the destination. Or use the freight elevator if available.
02Many residential buildings require freight or service elevator use for appliance deliveries. Contact building management 24–48 hours in advance. Freight elevators have larger doors (48–60") and higher weight limits. Some buildings also require floor protection mats in the hallway.
03Use elevator padding on all walls and the door frame. Place a rubber mat on the elevator floor to prevent scratches. Keep the washer on the dolly centered in the cab to avoid tilting. Many buildings provide elevator pads during reserved moving windows; ask management.
